Because they seek big payouts, Ryuk attackers often deploy spear phishing campaigns targeting people with access to enterprise-level software or systems.
Ryuk ransomware attacks often begin with phishing emails. How did Ryuk emerge and how does it spread? This makes the attack chain faster and makes it easier for hackers to cause system-wide devastation. In 2021, Ryuk ransomware took a worrying turn, as a new variant emerged with capabilities like computer worms, which can spread between computers and systems without needing a human agent.
While this was the Ryuk virus’s first public appearance under the name Ryuk ransomware, cybersecurity experts have linked the code structure to the Hermes ransomware strain, discovered in 2017. Ryuk ransomware first appeared in August 2018 when it encrypted the files of hundreds of small municipalities, logistics enterprises, and technology firms around the world. It’s unknown who is behind Ryuk ransomware, but most sources point to Wizard Spider, an underground network of cybercriminals based primarily in Russia. Recently, cybercriminals have doubled down on ruthless attacks, and vulnerable populations aren't off the table when it comes to a Ryuk attack. Ryuk ransomware, like all ransomware, can have a devastating impact, especially on targeted entities with critical digital assets - hospitals relying on electronic files to provide accurate medication, or utility plants who remotely control water facilities.

And yes I have reinstalled OS and other attempts to get a clean startup. Online can’t figure it out and they just send it to another level that never responds back. Still have more than 400 days on my license, but they are worthless. Had been a big fan of advast for the past couple of years, but am losing faith. But cleanup in any form or shape doesn’t. As far as monitoring logins to my home wifi network it appears to work and to secure the logins, That part works. Cleanup doesn’t work and can’t even be started up. Have reinstalled multiple times and onlne support has done the same. Sure it can secure logins, but it can’t fix any problems and Avast Cleanup won’t even load. Everything worked fine for a time but now it is a total mess.
They can’t figure out the problem and refer it to another level of advanced support I never hear back from. After 2 sessions with online support the result is the same. If Avast Cleanup isn’t installed it just errors out. It appears to work if Avast Cleanup is installed but really does nothing. I have been having problems and have worked twice with online support to try and resolve.
